Freshman team captain Jaytron Charles won the feature bout of the evening winning 5-0 over Shippensburg's Dan Koch in the 139-weight class bout. The taller Charles won his second strait bout of the season.
Charles' use of the left jab proved to be pivotal in the bout as Koch was never able to get inside his rangy opponent to inflict any damage.
Koch's only option was to try and wear Charles out and win huge in the third and final round, the same way several opponents have defeated him in the past. Charles' however stepped into the ring in phenomenal shape and boxed hard all three rounds, never allowing Koch to put together any scoring combinations.
Also winning for the Bald Eagles was freshman Nate Brown in his 156-weight class bout. Brown, a Philadelphia native, scored a Referee Stops Contest (RSC) late in the first round against Jeremy Miller of East Carolina University.
"Brown looked incredibly strong in the ring. Miller got caught with a couple hard right hands, and the referee had no choice but to stop the bout," said Coach Ken Cooper.
"If brown keeps improving in the room like he has been it's going to be hard to find someone that can stop him." Cooper added.
Freshman Jibri Greenwood also scored an RSC at 147, against Kevin Valentine of East Carolina University. It took greenwood only 32 seconds to finish off his ECU opponent.
Early in the first round Greenwood caught Valentine with a straight left and immediately followed it with a right hook that put Valentine in the corner with a standing eight count.
Once the count was over, Greenwood immediately pounced on his dazed opponent never allowing him to recover and forced the referee to intervene and stop the fight.
On the losing end for the Bald Eagles was freshman Markeen Clark who was stopped with a minute left to go in the second round of the 132-weight class match to Cory Simmons of the University of Maryland.
Also LHU's only female boxer, Desjenee Davis, lost via RSC to Amanda Cina of Mansfield University.
Three Bald Eagle boxers will return to action on Friday, as they travel to Reno, Nevada to compete in the University of Reno's Invitational. The boxers taking the journey will be Charles, Clark, and Davis.
