Although still two years away, some republicans are already preparing and making announcements of plans to run in the 2012 election. Some politicians that are considering running for the presidential position include Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin and Mike Huckabee.
Mitt Romney is seen as the major frontrunner for the Republican Party at the 2012 election. He is the 70th governor of Massachusetts. He has once been a candidate for the Republican nomination during the 2008 election. His approval ratings have been low being a conservative for the liberal state; however his ratings were higher than his successor democrat Deval Patrick.
On the issues, Romney was originally pro-choice, but has since become pro-life after believing that his views on abortion were incorrect. On same sex marriage, he has stated, ""Call me old fashioned, but I don't support gay marriage nor do I support civil union." He has also said that he would prefer that the federal constitution be modified to have marriage be between man and woman only. Foreign Policy has been controversial for Romney. He supported the invasion of Iraq, but he has since wanted to reduce the amount of troops in the region. He does not want to there to be a scheduled time for the withdrawal. Mitt Romney's campaign plans include speeches and appearances as well as a book tour to promote his publication "No Apology: The Case for American Greatness."
Sarah Palin has been in the spotlight for some time now, even though she and John McCain lost the election. She was one of Barbara Walter "10 Most Fascinating People" and is also the first female governor of Alaska. Her book "Going Rogue" and speaking tours have also become quite popular. She has since resigned from the position of governor of Alaska, but is possibly making plans to run in 2012 because she defines the Republican Party Platform as "the right agenda for America." Palin supports sex education in public schools which enforces abstinence and use of contraception.
