The LHU volleyball team (32-5) was swept by California (Pa.) University (33-5) on Saturday 3-0 (25-21, 26-24, and 25-19) in the PSAC Tournament Championship match.

This was the fourth time in five years the two universities met in the PSAC Championship.

This was also LHU's 11th appearance in the championship match since 1979 and even though the Lady Eagles lost this match, they will still appear in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championships.

In the match against Cal, freshman Xuan Gao led The Haven hitting a .375 with four digs and a team-high 13 kills.

Junior Kim Windstein had a solid performance with a .400 hitting percentage with eight digs, four kills and two solo blocks.

Sophomore Haley Gribler contributed to the Lady Eagles team with eight kills. Senior setter Fabiana Gomez was in top form as usual, with 34 assists for LHU while freshman Grace Novacek had seven kills, hitting a .466.

Before the championship match, The Haven competed in the semifinal match where they swept Clarion 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, and 25-20) for their 24th straight victory.

Rookie, Gao once again was the leader on the court with 10 kills, five assists, two digs and a .333 hitting percentage. Gribler was a top Lady Eagle as well with nine kills, four digs and two aces.

Novacek had an incredible .750 hitting percentage with six kills while Windstein hit a solid .428 with three solo blocks and eight kills.

Senior Christie Naumann had seven kills with six digs to contribute to the LHU victory.

Fabiana Gomez commented on the Friday semifinal performance, "It was definitely a good game. We were aggressive today. We had scouted the other team really well."

"We did what we needed to do. We weren't perfect, but we did what we needed to do. We had tough serves and came through strong today," Coach Tom Justice said.

The Lady Eagles will be competing in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championships today as the number two seed against Mercyhurst.

The championship tournament will run until Saturday at Cal.
