Study tips for final exams

As the semester slowly comes to an end, the last thing anyone wants to do is sit in their room with a pile of books in front of them. The fact that there is just a little more than week left until Thanksgiving, and a month until Christmas does not help the situation. With Christmas break on the distant horizon, and Thanksgiving break even closer, how is one supposed to stay motivated to finish the semester? A few upperclassmen offered their advice on staying motivated, and finishing off the semester with a bang.
Finishing up the semester's work minus finals is important, but finding the motivation to do the work can be difficult. Senior Tiffani Guiser said, "For me, I'm looking forward to what education has to offer, so that's how I stay motivated." Guiser also gave the advice to "Make sure you're doing what you want to do. Otherwise staying motivated will be next to impossible."
Another way to finish up the semester on a good note is to not procrastinate, according to junior Sythia McLaughlin. "Don't procrastinate, and know when everything is due. Write out everything on a calendar so you can see how much time you have to do your work, and get it done as soon as possible," she said.
Not procrastinating is much easier said than done, especially when you aren't surrounded by distractions. But with the anticipation of the holidays and seeing old friends from home, McLaughlin said a great way to avoid distractions is to "stay off of Facebook," and to "find a quiet place to study and get your work done.
Preparing for next semester is also a good way to stay on top of things. McLaughlin said to "meet with your advisor early, and pick out your classes, so when it's your time to register, half the work is already done."
Finals are a stressful time for everyone. McLaughlin said a great way to diffuse some of the stress that they bring is to "know where, when, and what time they are," and to "get plenty of sleep so you don't get sick."
When the time comes to prepare for your final exams, Guiser said to "do your work, but give yourself breaks. Study for a little while and then put it down and take a break, and go back to it later."
Lastly, when all your work for the semester and finals are over, McLaughlin says to "celebrate when you get everything done, and have some fun with your friends."
