During this time of the year many people walk the streets in fear, fear of their blood being sucked from underneath their ear. Dracula or more commonly known as "Edward" is usually to blame, however on Wednesday, October 28th the American Red Cross was at the sight of the puncture wounds.

This is why the Lock Haven community patiently waited in the Parsons Union Building or PUB to help save a life by donating a pint of their blood.

Wendy Walsh, a student life coordinator who has been running the blood drive for quite some time now, said, "That it was an average-sized turnout, and, although not an exact number, we met pretty close to our goal of 160 donators out of 197 students that came to register. I love the volunteers and seeing the number of people that try and come out to donate; first timers and returners all make a huge difference."

Some things that make a difference on the number of people that can actually donate is low iron, high blood pressure, medicine, not feeling well, tattoos, piercings and sports. With many warnings that follow after donating blood, one that college students need to take into heavy consideration is no excessive or intense workouts.

So they lose a lot of donators through sports, especially right now with football, softball, volleyball and soccer in season. The problem with exercising or even walking too fast is that your heart rate increases, which in turn increases your blood pressure. However if you are down a pint of blood it makes for a little less oxygen flowing to the body, which makes a person feel dizzy, and sometimes can make a person faint or feel "zombie-like."

Aside from all of the people who donated blood there were also students who came out to donate their time, especially students from Resident Hall Association (RHA), who also hosted the event. Those students could be seen transporting patients over to a table where the donators would be served some sugary appetizers and drinks, or even carry bags full of the red syrup that would go out to so many people in need of the miracle of life.

There were also three students dressed up advertising the blood drive: The Red Cross blood drop, fourth floor RA of McEntire, Justin Smith, Dracula: McEntire President Nick Durling and also Erin Spinelli as a beautiful sparkling vampire.

If, for any reason, you missed this blood drive but you still would like to donate, you can log on to: www.givelife.org and find a blood drive near your hometown or local community. Or you can wait until February 3 and donate once again in the PUB. If you can't donate blood for whatever reason, but still would love to help, look for the signs around campus to see who is hosting the "drive" and then just contact them.
