LHU and other social groups can use sites like Facebook for their networking and relaying of information

Fan pages on Facebook are becoming an increasingly popular way for businesses, clubs, organizations, celebrities, and many other public figures to display information periodically on their fans newsfeeds.
Facebook has become one of the most widely-used social networking sites on the planet, and possibly the easiest and most convenient way for the public to get information about various things. All a user has to do is look up virtually any single thing that interests them, ranging from Lady Gaga to Subway, become a fan of it, and then Facebook users can get updates about that specific thing in their newsfeed as long as the maintainer of the page updates it.
Lately, Lock Haven University has taken advantage of this, as some different organizations and departments have taken it upon themselves to make separate fanpages to display information.
Recently, Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania itself has made one where it displays recent information pertaining to big news stories and other press releases. It also informs fans of other events that are happening on campus as well. There are currently over 1,600 fans on that page, which include current students, alumni, and faculty.
Other LHU fan pages include, LHU bookstore, LHU McEntire Hall, LHU High Hall, LHU North Hall, also Smith, Woolridge, and Gross Halls, LHU Writing Center, LHU Alumni Ambassadors, LHU Student Activities, LHU Colleges Against Cancer/Relay For Life, Lock Haven University Arts Alliance, The Eagle Eye, and even Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania Alumni Association.
The LHU Bookstore fan page makes students aware of specials and discounts happening that they may not have known about otherwise. The most recent post being that "The Bald Eagles scored a touchdown Saturday so stop in the bookstore today and save 5% off clothing in the Bookstore today!!! Today ONLY (9/28)"
There are close to 250 fans on that page, and all of those people will see that update as long as they check their Facebook, whereas perhaps only a few students may have known about the deal just by going into the bookstore or being at the football game its self.
In addition to separate departments on campus, also many local businesses in the city of Lock Haven have created fan pages as well.
The Roxy Theatre has almost 700 fans and updates every week about upcoming movies, and Avenue 209 also updates almost daily about specials going on in the shop, gives information about musicians playing, and even goes as far as to give people discounts that you can only get if you see them on the Facebook page.
A fan page can be very beneficial for any club, organization, business, product, etc. Not only can they update the perhaps thousands of fans they gain with little to no effort, but it is also a place for fans to come together and participate in discussions so the maintainer of the fan page can attain feedback from fans, and easily get opinions or suggestions.
So if you are the head of a club or organization on campus, be sure to consider making a fan page, and also be sure to become a fan of The Eagle Eye at www.facebook.com/lhueagleeye.
