Strouse has been a cheerleading adviser as well as a 25-year honorary sweetheart to the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority.
Prior to retiring in March 2007, Strouse worked as a groundskeeper at LHU and most recently in the equipment room in Zimmerli where he shared smiles and stories to the passersby.
"It's obvious that Denny puts others before himself which makes him a great person to be involved in these kinds of activities. I'm glad I got to work with Denny as I'm sure others are which is why so many students and alumni came together to honor him," said Jenn Kutys, a former cheerleader
Strouse believes that when you are in a position to help someone out, it is important to do so.
That is why he is so heavily involved in the community.
In addition to playing an active part in the community, Strouse donates time and money to university athletics as well.
When Christmas comes around and Santa is in town, underneath the white beard and red suit is Strouse who has been a Lock Haven city Santa Claus for 36 years.
He is a member of the Keystoneairs Quartet and the First Church of Christ church choir.
He also donates his time and efforts to help underprivileged children.
"What makes Denny so great is no matter the time of day he is there for you. He doesn't need to know you to see you need a lending hand when he steps out of his way to help you. He always makes time to be involved in everything possible, even if it means overlapping things to be able to be involved in each and every activity. He's just simply one of a kind, and by far the best advisor anyone could ask for in life and in cheerleading," said Lauren Christen, the cheerleading treasurer.
The dinner was to recognize all of Strouse's hard work and dedication to everything he is involved in. Students shared memories and stories of Strouse's involvement on the organizations.
"This has been planned for a month; we wanted to thank him for everything he has done for us. He always donates and helps out. If your car is broken down and you have a flat tire, Denny's there helping," said Christen.
After the celebration dinner, the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority honored him and presented him with a gift.
"I will always be involved as long as they need someone to help them. I'm not trying to run their life, just guide them in the right direction," said Strouse.
Everywhere he goes he is always looking for another person to help out.
"There are really no strangers in this world, just friends that you haven't met yet," said Strouse.
