The results of a taste-testing to find the best pizza in Lock Haven overwhelmingly showed that honors students prefer Papa John's over Pizza King, Original Italian Pizza and Pizza City.
Food, Fashion & Fitness, a weekly activity group consisting of 15 members led by Student Associate Director Caroline Sweeney, joined together to test four different types of pizza last Friday.
To some, the results were surprising.
"Papa John's was very good," said Cortney Rogers, a first-year student. "It didn't have too much cheese, the crust was big and fluffy, and there weren't too many herbs."
Of the 15 members, 11 of them gave Papa John's a first or second place.
"Papa John's was clearly the obvious favorite," said Sweeney, "It's been my favorite since the first time I ordered it freshman year."
The pizza that seemed to divide many members of the group was that of Pizza King's. Ten of the members gave it a third or a fourth place, while two of them felt that it was the best, leading to some heated debate.
"Although Pizza King wasn't good today, it's usually better than that," said Courtney Cook, a first-year student in the Honors Program.
She went on to write in her review, "I liked this the best! Cheesy! And the perfect sauce!"
Much of the debate came from Cook's comments and several similar to them.
"You can't judge it by what it usually tastes like," said Chris Carroll, a freshman in the program. "The sauce was just weird. Disgusting. I would never eat it again."
A few of the members commented on Pizza King's lack of visual appeal as well as the "strange-tasting" sauce.
"The guy at Pizza King asked me to tell him the results of our survey when I picked up the pizza," said Sweeney. "I don't think he'll want to know."
Pizza City was a close second to Papa John's, garnering the same amount of first place votes but three less second place votes.
"Pizza City was pure awesomeness," said Carroll, "I'm from New Jersey, and this was almost as good as some of the pizza we have back home."
Original Italian Pizza of Mill Hall took third place, although it still received quite a few good reviews.
"Original Italian Pizza was by far the best," said Abby Lawless, a sophomore in the Honors Program. "It was an explosion of tomato. Absolutely delicious."
