LHU students have a new resource to help them prepare for careers after college.
A syndicated television show called CareerTV that focuses on preparation for the job market has begun airing on LHU's Campus Channel 12 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
"[CareerTV] produces these episodes on topics relevant to careers and jobs," said Director of Career Services Joan Welker.
"They focus on topics that are of interest to college students and specifically may be of interest to graduating seniors," she said.
In addition to the TV episodes, CareerTV offers material on its Web site.
According to its site, "CareerTV is the first and only global television programmer and interactive Web site designed to help college students and young professionals develop long-lasting, successful careers."
It was through its Web site that Welker became familiar with the program.
According to Welker, CareerTV sent her an e-mail inviting her to try the program.
She then visited the Web site, where she watched episodes and short videos, and thought "they were of good quality."
Welker has already received seven free episodes from the first season and intends to continue airing the program, as she receives new episodes.
"We'll add additional episodes as I receive them," she said.
She particularly encourages students to watch the episode entitled "Generation Y and Social Networking," which airs the week of Feb. 23.
"It'll focus on social networking sites," she said. "Such as Facebook and MySpace: the positives and negatives of these sites, how employers are using them and how students can use them to benefit themselves."
"If the students don't watch any of the other episodes," she said, "I tune into that one, because I think it has some really good information on it."
Upcoming episodes include: "Top Undergrad Employers Countdown," the week of Feb. 16; "Generation Y and Social Networking," the week of Feb. 23; "Top Government Employers," the week of March 9; "Top Healthcare Employers," the week of March 16; and "Top Employers for Women," the week of March 23.
