This past Saturday at McCollum Field the men's soccer team held a celebration in honor of the 30th anniversary of the 1977 National Championship team. The ceremony also was a special tribute to Coach Karl Herrmann.
Herrmann was the coach of the soccer team from 1967 to 1975. He finished with a career record of 65-35-14.
According to Sports Information Director Doug Spatafore, "Herrmann was a key factor in the building process of Lock Haven's men's soccer program."
The game, in which the Haven defeated Kutztown 2-0, was looked on by roughly 500 spectators. Spatafore estimates that around 200 of the onlookers were alumni.
"I was very impressed with the amount of alumni that showed up. Most of the alumni that were here today are still involved in some form of soccer today," said Spatafore.
During halftime guest speakers talked about their memories of the '77 season and Coach Herrmann. President Keith Miller was on hand to watch the ceremonies and the game.
After the win by LHU the alumni and fans were treated to a picnic.
"I was very impressed with the ceremony. It was a really nice occasion," Spatafore said.
