LHU students flocked to the juried art show on April 4, 2007 in the John Sloan Fine Arts Gallery. The show featured pieces from nearly 30 art students, which were selected by Marilee Salvator, assistant professor of the art department at Bloomsburg University.

Bustling groups of art enthusiasts filed into the John Sloan Fine Arts Gallery last Wednesday to see selected works from Lock Haven University students in the annual juried student art show. All of the pieces chosen for the exhibit were selected by a source outside of the LHU art department.
Marilee Salvator, assistant professor in the art department at Bloomsburg University, was elected to hand pick student art work for the show.
According to Raymond Heffner, chair of the LHU art department, many people wanted to have a female juror for this year's show. The fact that Salvator also had excellent credentials and intense enthusiasm for the show made her the perfect candidate, said Heffner.
"The idea of having a juried show takes away our subjectivity of what we cultivate in our students," said Heffner. "It's a more real experience in that regard."
At least 25 to 30 students were able to have their art displayed in the show, according to Sean Klein, President of the Fine Arts Club.
Klein organized the juried student art show and delegated the responsibilities among Fine Arts Club members, including collecting and arranging the student entries and planning appropriate lighting techniques.
"This show has been my baby for the past month and a half," said Klein. He said that it was important to display a structured show for the visitors, students and faculty.
"That was a big part of the show - getting it to look professional, instead of art work just thrown up on the wall," said Klein. He was happy with the crowd turnout for this particular exhibit.
"We try to expose the campus to cultural events like this," said Klein. "It's a lot of hard work."
"He really took responsibility," said Heffner.
Out of 183 LHU student entries for this juried art show, 93 were accepted by Salvator.
"It's amazing we fit everything in," said Heffner.
"I believe that the quality of artwork being produced at Lock Haven University is of the highest caliber," Salvator said in a statement to the LHU art department.
