Dr. Grunenwald earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from Youngstown State University and both master's and doctoral degrees in business administration from Kent State University.

As provost and academic vice president, Dr. Grunenwald is responsible for providing academic leadership and policy direction for university-wide planning, supporting curriculum development and assessment, acquiring and implementing use of new technology, identifying and facilitating potential for academic collaborations and promoting a more collegial working environment within a collective bargaining setting.

Dr. Reinhard, who in order to help facilitate a smooth transition in leadership at the university announced more than 18 months ago her intention to retire in June, praised the choice of her successor.

"I am delighted that the Board of Governors has selected Joe Grunenwald as Clarion University's next president," she said. "I have had the privilege of working with Dr. Grunenwald throughout my tenure and I am confident that he will serve with distinction this fine university for many years to come."
