And then there were … eight? If you've missed the last couple weeks of Avenue 209 Coffee House's "Rock the Haven" contest, you've been missing life. The cold, snowy fall day may have surprised many of us, but didn't keep the crowd from coming out. Playing to a packed house, the late start still didn't deter the evening from being an enjoyable time.

University confirms positive H1N1 cases

The Lock Haven University community learned of the first reported case of the H1N1 virus on campus via e-mail on Tuesday, October 13. "Lock Haven University has confirmed that an on-campus student has been diagnosed with the H1N1 virus. The student has been isolated to prevent further spread of the virus," said the email that was sent to the LHU community pertaining to the H1N1 virus being on campus.

Shoe sale benefits team, student

Lock Haven University's track and field teams hosted their annual Fall Shoe Sale Oct. 14 at the Thomas Feildhouse from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The shoe sale was a benefit for the Track and Field Scholarship Fund, and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Brian Keefer Medical Fund.

Budget impasse has students worried about tuition, loans

he Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has not yet approved a budget for 2009-10. This has had a direct impact on student grant money that is typically allocated to tuition expenses. However, to keep basic state services operating, an interim budget was enacted back in August.

State Reps host energy fair at Central Mountain High School

State Rep. Mike Hanna, D-Lock Haven, and State Sen. John Wozniak, D-Johnstown, will co-host their second annual Green Energy Fair on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at the Central Mountain Middle School gymnasium. The event will run from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. and will be free and open to the public.

Gay Straight Alliance raises awareness

Gay Straight Alliance is a club offered by Lock Haven University where the purpose is to create an environment where any sexual orientation or gender can come together and raise awareness about the freedom to be open about one's sexual identity. Gay Straight Alliance is welcome to all, even if you just want to come and make new friends; it is a great club to join.

A lot of students here at Lock Haven University as well as other college campuses find themselves in uncomfortable situations within their residence halls. Most problems are caused by students not taking the proper precautions. With a large number of students attending Lock Haven University, it is hard to keep track of everyone and their possessions.

Nanotech business presents new breakthrough

The vice president of business development for Ahlstrom Filtration Inc. spoke to students Monday evening at the Ulmer Planetarium. Rod Komlenic presented a new line of water and air filtration breakthroughs using nanotechnology developed in Ahlstrom's Mount Holly Springs, Pennsylvania, location.
